Building confidence and being resilient in the face of change and transitions doesn't have to be as daunting as many would have us think. At Life/Redefined we are determined to help you over-50s understand their purpose and passion more clearly and offer you to tools to build and re-build confidence to help you survive and, better still, to thrive.

No Normal?

During the the pandemic, the whole nation (or world, in fact) was asking when we will get back to normal. Conceding that this is unlikely (maybe impossible?), talk turned to establishing a ‘new normal’ in a world of Covid-19. Perhaps realistically we could go one step further. Could we be entering a future where there will be ‘no normal’? Our world is complex, volatile and uncertain. A constantly changing world requires us to be constantly learning and indeed re-learning. This responsibility falls to us all.

More and more people are now becoming vocal about the impact of the Pandemic on their confidence. The world that many of us knew is no longer. The ways we have always done things is no longer. In light of such dramatic and fast changes to the global landscape, it is quite understandable that many have experienced a crash in confidence.

Yet, every challenge presents an opportunity if we are able to be intentional in our mindset. What could this mean for you? Perhaps the backdrop of the Pandemic and the new season you are entering into is an invitation; an invitation to develop new skills and deepen the resilience needed to not just survive the next decade, but actually to thrive in it? Better still, could we personally grow in such a way that we are better able to help others overcome the same difficulties?

The Confidence Killer

One of the biggest factors to kill confidence is unfavourable comparison towards others and this is often triggered in times of change and challenge.

They are coping better than me

They just don’t seem to be struggling like I am

Maybe I was never any good at this

Perhaps I’ve been pretending all along and now that the bubble has burst, I’ll finally be found out”

A crash in confidence can cause the imposter syndrome to kick-in strongly, leaving us feel worthless and vulnerable.

Of the keys to countering these strong emotions and then re-building confidence needed to flourish is understanding our uniqueness and learning to appreciate it anew.

The Power of the Fingerprint

Take a moment to pause and look closely at your fingerprint. There are currently over 7.8 billion other people on the planet and yet no-one has a fingerprint like yours. This is even true for those of you who might be identical twins. Your uniqueness means you have a contribution to make to our world as unique as you are. Your strengths cannot be identical to another person’s and their strengths cannot be identical to yours.

55/Redefined are determined to help you understand yourself more clearly and build / re-build confidence in you to help you survive and better still, to thrive in a post-pandemic world.
