From £100K Sales Role to Postman at 56

In this 55/Redefined podcast episode we chat to Phil Goddard about his career change at 56 and the post that went viral and led to sweeping support and praise for the move.

Phil Goddard, a 56-year-old man from Cambridgeshire, has made headlines after he announced on LinkedIn his career change from a £100K sales roles to postman.

On LinkedIn Phil said: "At 56 I've decided it's time to do something different. As much as I've enjoyed my time in Sales , this last year under lockdown has taught me that there's more to life than spinning plates and putting out fires.

2020 for me can be summarised as Furlough, Redundancy, House Sale, Temporary Accommodation, New Job, New House, lack of social interaction ( Lockdown) .

This all contributed to an increase in blood pressure, stress levels and a general lack of sleep.

So with some amazing support from my Line Manager ( who will remain anonymous - but she knows who she is ) I handed my notice in back in April and started making plans to do something different.

Last week I started work as a Post Man in Cambridge.

I'm averaging 15Km per day walking. My feet ache and I've muscles in my legs that I never even knew I had. But I'm working out doors, I get to meet people Sometimes I even get to stop and chat as well.
I'd almost forgotten how good that makes me feel.

The money is not what I'm used to, but hey! We're mortgage free now so that's one less thing to worry about.

There's no magic formula to an easy life. But if you no longer enjoy what you do , then do something about it,. After all you have one life so give it your best shot."

In this episode of the 55/Redefined podcast, Lyndsey Simpson, CEO 55/Redefined, chats to Phil about his career change at 56 and the post that went viral and led to sweeping support and praise for the move.
