With a wet summer almost behind us and autumn hot on its heels, we wouldn’t be surprised if that craving for cosiness has become overwhelming. The answer? Maybe it’s time to book yourself into a Lake District lodge complete with hot tub for a luxurious countryside getaway. Here’s our pick of the best…

Hansel at Hinterlandes

Picture this: you’ve enjoyed breakfast in bed, taken the pooch out on a long country walk, enjoyed a little wild swimming, cooked dinner by the firepit and are now submerged in a hot tub with a glass of champagne with the love of your life. Does it get any better?

A cosy little hideaway buried deep in the Cumbrian mountains in the middle of an ancient woodland, Hansel at Hinterlandes makes for a true off-grid experience and, sleeping just two with pets welcome, it’s a stellar choice for a romantic weekend away with your furry friends in tow.

Lodge on the Lake

Sitting right on the edge of Lake Windermere, as the name suggests, Lake District lodge real estate doesn’t come much better than this.

Sleeping six people and boasting beautiful, uninterrupted views from the decking and lounge, Lodge on the Lake sits within the five-star Fallbarrow Park just a five minute walk into Bowness for an array of restaurants, bars and shops. You’d most likely find us soaking in the hot tub on the edge of the terrace, however, gazing out into the serene wilderness ahead.

The Roe

One of two bespoke boltholes that form part of the family-run In The Vale cabins near Keswick in the Lake District, The Roe is a luxury lodge where you can pull off your duvet, throw open the doors and be directly greeted by one of the most iconic mountains in the region, Blencathra.

Ideal for a romantic escape in rural surroundings, wooden king-sized beds face huge bi-folding doors to maximise the panorama, while a wood-fired hot tub sits directly on your own private patio. Add to that a firepit which doubles as a griddle if you fancy cooking on it plus mini-kitchen and bathroom with heated flooring, it makes for one of the most comfortable stays in the district.

Snowdrop Cabin

Situated on a private estate in a beautifully untouched corner of Cumbria, Snowdrop Cabin is the newest addition to Hidden River Cabin’s roster of luxury lodges in the Lake District with hot tubs. Sleeping up to 8 guests across four super king bedrooms, this is a great shout if you’re looking to treat the family, and it comes equipped with a toasty wood burner and a luxurious hot tub that makes it a joy in both the winter and the summer. What’s more, it’s fully dog-friendly, so you really can take the whole family along for the ride.

Beach Rock Boutique Home

While it might be more of a (very impressive house) than a lodge, this Airbnb is just too good to leave off the list. A sleek and sophisticated treetop home nestled at the end of a quiet leafy lane just a stone’s throw from Lake Windermere, there are five luxury suites for ten guests to relax in alongside an open-plan living space and gorgeous garden terrace.

Whatever the season, its generous hot tub has to be this home’s biggest selling point, and a magical spot to stargaze after-hours. Try to bag the downstairs bedroom if you’re quick – its double doors open out directly onto the terrace, giving you first dibs.

The Lake District National Park Sunset Beach Cabin

Sitting right on the shores of the Irish Sea, this cozy Lake District cabin makes for a cute beach retreat. Home to an incredibly placed hot tub, wooden floors, snug wraps and peaceful sleeping spaces, this self-catering beach cabin serves up some of the best stargazing opportunities in the region so once the sun sets, grab a glass, head to the hot tub and enjoy to your heart’s content.

While we’re not sure you’d want to leave, those looking to explore the area can find a 13-hole golf course five minutes from the cabin, coastal walks, woodland rambles and mountain hikes for explorers of any ability.

Otter Tarn

As an architect-designed five-star lodge near Cartmel in the Lake District, Otter Tarn has to be one of the most stylish stays on our list. Home to designer kitchen, open plan lounge, underfloor heating, a wood-burning stove and three en-suite bedrooms inside, plus wide open decking area with BBQ for al fresco dining, the star of the show is its private hot tub which, set into natural stone walling, is an exceptional spot to relax with a glass of wine. Don’t mind if we do.

Edens Vale Lodge

A cool and contemporary cabin that sits in a peaceful forest surrounded by the rolling valleys and white farmhouses of its quaint Cumbrian corner, this family-run lodge is completely unique with handmade furnishings, fitted kitchen, wood burner, breakfast bar and all the other amenities you could wish for.

Not only is there a sauna on site, its two-person outdoor hot tub sits elegantly on the veranda and comes heated by a wood fire, meaning no harsh chemicals that can be damaging to both your body and the environment. It’s a lovely place to enjoy a holistic soak alongside the view of the historical Settle to Carlisle viaduct built between 1869 and 1876 and, if you’re lucky, you might even spot the occasional steam train.
