Destination Dressing: Seville, Spain

Embrace the glamour of the small, sun-soaked capital of southern Spain by reaching for wafty dresses, sandals and dangly accessories.

Is there anywhere more bright and beautiful than Seville? We think not. Cobbled alleys, ancient bars, flamenco and the world’s largest gothic Cathedral… that’s without the Royal Alcazar Gardens... are you in?

I visited Seville twice in 2019 within a matter of months and it’s hands down the best city I’ve ever been to. What’s more, my partner declared it as his too, which is no mean feat as he’s the hardest man to please with gifts, especially where Christmas surprises are concerned. This girl did good and we can’t wait to return. If you do decide to go, make your first destination the Gothic Cathedral, hop into a horse and carriage and take a ride. I guarantee you’ll fall in love with Sevilla in less than five-minutes. Also, for the fashion lovers among us, you could find yourself shopping for earrings within 10.

As a personal stylist, I'm a true believer in buy the outfit and the occasion will come to you, so here we go with the perfect Sevilla Spain capsule wardrobe.

What to Wear in Seville, Spain

When thinking about what to wear in Seville, firstly I am inspired by the colours that reflect the feel of those beautiful, vibrant destination littered with windy cobbled alleys. Look up and you will see the bluest sky against a terracotta wall and pretty flowers gracing the windows. To start your packing, you'll need some staples to build upon. Go for:

  • Classic denim skirt
  • Statement belt
  • Floaty blouse
  • Maxi dress
  • Swimsuit
  • Basic T-shirt (my pick: American Vintage Jacksonville style from The Dressing Room)
  • Basket bag (my pick: Chloe's small basket bag at Net-a-Porter)
  • Sandals (try these Ipanema ones, pictured below, or the failsafe Hermes Oran sandals, also pictured below)
  • Trainers
  • Espadrilles
  • Denim jacket (my picks are Free People or The Kooples one available at Selfridges, pictured below)
  • Beaded necklace

  • The Kooples cream denim jacket
  • Chloe cross body basket bag in orange
  • Ladies brown statement belt with decorative buckle
  • Classic white ladies t-shirt
  • Veja V12 white trainers
  • Pucci orange pink and yellow ladies swimuit
  • Hermes Oran orange sliders
  • Buddha tassle beaded necklace

In September and October the average daytime temperature in Sevilla is around 28 degrees… I mean if you’re not sold yet, I’m doing something wrong here. So as you head poolside, you can kick off the Hermes slides and over a vino rosado, plan your next day’s activities and tour of the tapas bars… there incidentally are hundreds.

You may just fancy a stroll into the Santa Cruz Area for Tapas and a Cana at famous Bodega. It’s so, so cool and bohemian and this is the perfect spot to wear your maxi dress. It’s very relaxed and everybody spills out onto the street. Cue the great people watching, you may find yourselves staying a while.

Travel is a great excuse to get involved in a new wardrobe so which are you going to do first? The holiday or the wardrobe?

Check-in: Corral del Rey, Seville

Looking for somewhere to stay in Seville that hits all the right notes, including a rooftop pool? Mr & Mrs Smith recommend Corral del Rey. Tucked away in one of the labyrinthine narrow streets of the old quarter, this whitewashed boutique hotel is a reinvention of a 17th-century casa palacio that preserves Roman marble pillars alongside medieval Mudéjar wooden doorways. Cocktail on the rooftop where you can see the entire cityscape? Yes, please!
